Chail is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is 44 kilometres (27 mi) from Shimla and 45 kilometres (28 mi) from Solan. The Chail Palace is well known for its architecture: the palace was built as summer retreat by the Maharaja of Patiala during the British Raj, on the land allotted to him by the British for former's assistance in the Anglo-Nepalese War. The cricket ground and a polo ground which is there at an altitude of 2,250 m was owned by erstwhile royal family of Patiala. It is the world's highest cricket ground.
Chail is situated at an altitude of 2,250 m. The place is surrounded by the forests of chir pine and gigantic deodars. Shimla, Solan and Kasauli can also be viewed at night from here. Chail is pleasant in summers and cold in winter.

By Plane
From Chail, the closest airport is at Chandigarh which is 112 kilometers away. From Chandigarh, you can have a taxi or bus, which is continuously available in service.

By Road
There are direct buses from Kalka to Chail. The distance is 77 Km. If you are coming from Delhi, take a Shimla bound bus and get down at Kandaghat. Chail is only 30 Km away from Kandaghat. You can either book a car from Kandaghat or wait for buses to Chail.

By Train
The nearest broad gauge rail station is Kalka. The nearest narrow gauge rail station is Kandaghat.
